The Garage Attic Intro

Welcome to The Garage Attic blog! Aptly named after the space above our garage that is home to car parts, old VHS tapes, dusty magazines.

Through the years, the world has moved from physical, analog, and fungible objects in favor of digital, cloud-based, and internet experiences.

While I love new technology, I’ve come to realize that everything becoming digitized has made a lot of things lose their meaning.

For instance…

We now take seemingly infinite amounts of photos at the touch of a button. Filling up our camera rolls just to rarely look at them again. While with analog film, the anticipation builds as you wait for your film to get developed. Whether your photos come out nice or not, that photo is your portal to those memories. Place them in your album and flip through the pages!

There are endless amounts of movies ready to be streamed at any moment. You can spend hours browsing and selecting a movie to finally watch. While with physical copies you are able to literally own and touch a copy of your favorite film. Plus you have nice artwork to look at as well. And you dont have to browse for hours if you only own a handful of movies!

And now as we move towards electric cars. There is less room for customization and it is less feasible to modify any components of your car. Older cars have rusty pedals, the engine makes cool noises, and there is tons of room to build whatever you can imagine. Only buy old cars!

Overall, I think the human touch is being lost, literally and figuratively. Our world is being run by pixels on a screen rather than the space that surrounds us.

My hopes with the Garage Attic Blog, is to appreciate our old technology through modern formats. I hope to bring a human touch to the ever-growing digital world by giving a genuine perspective on the garage projects I work on and the interesting things I find. I also hope to inspire people to take a look and appreciate whats around them a bit more closely.

Come on up to the attic and see what you can find.

Cheers!
